Who we are: We are a collective of transgressive writers, authors, bloggers, and poets who want to use the written word as a medium for political protest, social critique, and empowerment. We are activists who seek to support gender divergent writing and scholarship in all of its forms by providing a platform for that work. Of note: we value snark and gallows humor.
What we want: All works should include gender transgressive experiences, issues, or identities as a central theme or area of inquiry. Feminist, womanist, and intersectional works are highly encouraged. Currently, we are looking for submissions in the following areas:
- Critical essays on contemporary politics
- Book and film reviews
- Narrative non-fiction
- Interviews and short oral histories
- Short stories or flash fiction in any genre
- Excerpts from longer fiction pieces
- Experimental prose
- Short works of poetry in any genre
Who we want: We are interested in works from any and all.
We are particularly interested in works from trans, intersex, and other gender transgressive writers, as well as folx who identify as asexual, Black, Brown, disabled, fat, femme, HIV+, indigenous, Muslim, POC, poly or non-monogamous, queer, refugee, religious minority, undocumented, working-class and/or outside of academia, or part of another marginalized group.
Works can be published with a bio, anonymously, or under a pseudonym.
What we offer: We recognize the inherent crappiness of not yet being able to pay our writers at this time. While we work on raising funds so that we can provide compensation for future submissions, we offer our eternal gratitude (which is not nearly enough). That’s why we also provide:
- Professional editing and feedback on your writing,
- Promotion of your other creative works (books, blogs, art, activism, etc.), and
- Opportunities to connect with other writers and activists for collaborative projects.
For those who are published before we obtain funding, we promise first priority consideration for your future submissions to our blog if/when the time comes we can provide compensation.
How to submit: Submissions of no more than 1500 words or 25 lines of poetry should be sent in the body of the email or as .doc, .docx, or .pdf attachments to email@example.com. Include a roughly 100-word bio with your submission, specify your preferred pseudonym, or state that you would like to publish anonymously. Queries are also welcomed.
